Unlike family therapy where all the participants are more than likely known well and have history with each other, group therapy is with those you most likely have never meet before. Why would anyone want to engage in this form of therapy you ask? Well imagine if you are dealing with struggles that others you know don’t really understand, no matter how much they care about you. Imagine if you wanted to find some relief or support around these struggles. Then imagine if others were dealing with issues similar to or just like yours, and also looking for support? Group therapy can give a forum to those who are dealing with a shared struggle or goal in mind, but one where they can give support and share differing perspectives. Group therapy is about the group members taking ownership of their experience and although they are guided by the therapist, the members all have the ability to guide the process with each other and embark on a shared Journey.
At On the Journey: Therapy & Trainings we offer group therapy with tried and true evidence based practice methods such as CBT, Didactic based sessions, or Emotionally Focused Therapy practices. However, we also offer more experiential group therapy experiences such as D&D groups, Gaming groups and others that can help individuals find themselves amongst friends.
